Using Quicktime files in DVD-Arch

I have a project where the client has supplied quicktime (MOV) files. I was able to drag and drop them from the explorer onto the menu layout of DVD-Architect 3.0. All worked OK on preview. I saved the project and shut the computer down. When I rebooted the next day, DVD-Architect could not find or open the MOV files into the project and prompted me browse for them. If I did this it would ignore my selection in the browser and ask me for the file again. I have had the same thing happen with AVIs from certain codecs - OK while the program is open but once you restart, DVD-A doesnt like the files. So is DVD-A 3.0 compatible with MOVs or not? What about version 4.0?
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Compatability depends on what's in the MOV - MOV's are only containers and can hold just about anything, similar to an AVI.

Anyway, while I don't work with MOV's directly in DVDA, I have occasionally run into an issue with Vegas where the Quicktime library takes longer to initialize than Vegas likes (this happens sometimes when I first bring a MOV into a Vegas project).

Usually exiting and re-launching Vegas solves the problem. My guess is that Quicktime may be phoning home to check for updates, and this sometimes takes longer than the timeout value for Vegas. It could be that DVDA has a similar timeout.

One possibility is that what you're seeing has less to do with what kind of file you're using than it does with where that file is. If it's on a removeable drive (CD, DVD, USB, etc), could be that Windows has simply assigned a different drive letter than the last time you saved the project. Even if you haven't moved that particular drive, other removeable drives in your system can "disturb the order" if you haven't specifically assigned a drive letter to them. And that's enough to make DVDA think the file has moved.

Barring that, Scott's explanation sounds the most likely one. I've never had it happen to me, but it wouldn't surprise me.

For the record, yes, I have used MOV files in DVDA, though I try to avoid it just because of the re-encoding.

Thanks for your replies.
The files are just on the C Drive. They are MOVs from a digital camera.
You could be right about Quicktime looking for updates while DVDA is running, although you'd think it'd just slow things down rather than be unable to find the files at all. I'll try DVDA 4.0. Otherwise I'll try converting to AVI or MPEG in Vegas first. Rob have you used MOVs in DVDA 3.0?
Cheers

Yep. That's the version I'm using now.

Been a few threads I believe on using digital cam video, perhaps in the Vegas section?
