Using Standard Def footage win High Def project

We have a lot of stock footage in Standard Definition.
We also have a lot of Digital Juice stuff in Standard Def.

All of that will be replaced over time but I'm wondering how others integrate standard definition assets into a high definition production?

I'm not sure if the Digital Juice stuff can be rendered in 16:9 format... if so then the question would be how noticeable would it be that it was actually in standard def?

Alternately if it could only be rendered in standard def I guess you could enlarge it to fill a 16:9 aspect ratio but maybe that would accent the resolution difference...

Regarding stock footage I'm not sure how it would look to resize it to fit a 16:9 screen given that it wouldn't lop off something important in the footage.

Finally I guess the question is what do you guys do if you have to integrate some standard def footage into a high def project?

Or have you guys just completely tossed all your standard def assets?

Thanks for any comments and suggestions.

If it's animated stuff then mostly i just stretch it out to widescreen. If you haven't seen the original in 4:3 then you might not think it looks odd stretched to 16:9.

There are lots of effects that interpolate more resolution into an image by virtue of the fact that they generate more detail. For example, glow produces pixels at the project resolution even if the source image used is lower resolution. It may not be as smooth an effect as if an HD source was used, but it does do something.

When using older Juice products released in 4:3 - then just be sure that you are using any Juicer app 5 yrs old or less - the app allows you to create the dynamics of framing and pixel count to your desires.

Where this would be undesirable is only where a frame might contain an intended perfect circle or some such geometric or embedded text - and that is an extremely rare product...
