Quite simple... All you have to do is render the avi footage to uncompressed. Hope you have a lot of space. What i do is take the effect i want to use and then render it behind a green screen (an option to do in Alamdv) then play with the clip in vegas removing the green screen. It worked out alright for some smoke effects I needed to do. I think this would be too much to worry about for light sabers though.

Regardless of it's name AlamDV2 doesn't support DV import. AlamDV3 will. It's a free upgrade if you bought AlamDV2 this year. I bought mine 12 days before that... :-(

Yep, I discuss this problem in the Vegas Tips section of my website. The problem you’re experiencing is because Vegas uses OpenDML 2.0 by default. If you turn this option off, AlamDV will open your DV avi file without a problem.

You have to go into the render Options and select the Video tab and deselect "Create an OpenDML (AVI version 2.0) compatible file" checkbox (i.e., make sure there's no check). Then render the file. Unfortunately, I don't know how to turn this off for Vegas captured files. The files I capture with Pinnacle Studio work fine with AlamDV so this is a Vegas problem. I wish there was an option in Vegas to turn it off permanently. A lot of DV programs have a problem with this, not just AlamDV.
