Using Transitions in Vegas Movie Studio HD Pt

I need help, please, with what should be dead simple (!) - as a new user I've created a new project (HD, best quality), but I cannot see how to add transitions.
Whenever I try to select and drag a transition (according to the manual) the cursor changes to a red symbol, which cannot be dropped on either of the video tracks.

Any suggestions most welcome.

Thank you

You have two events on the timeline, OVERLAP those two events to create a crossfade. Now drop the transition onto that crossfade.

That was quick! I'll try this out ASAP.
Much appreciated - I assumed wrongly transitions were added as in Pinnacle or Videostudio, so I've learnt something!

Vegas does not automatically create heads/tails on your events in order to create the transition. If you don't already have a transition, you need to create one first. If you included heads/tails out of habit from the other NLE's, you could press "/" on the numeric keypad to create the crossfade and then drop the transition onto the crossfade. However, I prefer to manually create the crossfade and then drop whichever transition I desire onto the crossfade.
