using tv for preview

I have my tv connected to the composite out of my gforce4 420 board. I can drag the preview window in vv4 to the tv, but the maximum size for viewing is only about 3/4 of the screen. There is a white border that will only go so small. Desktop menus and windows are difficult to read but the video preview comes out just fine. I'm not sure if what I am previewing on the tv is the same as the preview I can do using my dv camcorder via 1394 port. I would prefere to use the composite output rather than the 1394.(less complicated) From what I see vv3-4 doesn't output preview through the gforce card.If it can does anybody know how. I guess vv3-4 will only use the 1394. Is it possible that draging the preview window onto the tv is as good as 1394 method? If I play on the tv something in windows media player 9.0 it plays fine and in full screen. I running a HP 793 at 3.06 ghz windows xp.

The reason that the 1394 port is used for preview is because you then see exactly the same signal that will be used for final output through Print-To-Tape or when you play a DVD on a standalone player. This way you can see the video the way your audience will see it on their TVs. There is no guarantee that a composite out on a video card will match it.

You are probably better off using the preview throw the video card like you are doing for regular editing and use the preview on external monitor (thru 1394) for matching up color. Preview on ext monitor can get jerky with lots of fx, transistions, filters, etc... The size of your preview on the TV thru your video card will depend on what your preview resolution is (i.e. 720x480 is the highest) and what resolution you have the 2nd display set too. If you have the 2nd display set to 640x480, the preview will almost fit the whole display. If you have it set to 1024x768, the preview will be real small. If you have ti set to 800x600, it will fill most of the screen, but still have some left over for other windows.
