The Convergent Design SD-Connect would allow you to convert the beta sp to DV for use with Vegas. The SD-Connect features composite, component, s-video, and SDI video I/O and 4 channels of embedded audio over SDI, balanced analog, and AES/EBU audio. SD-Connect also has RS-422 tape deck control and guaranteed frame accurate insert/assemble edits.
The analog video I/O has 12 bit A/D and D/A converters for superior video quality.
You can use the SD-Connect easily with a laptop due to the DV compression. We will soon offer uncompressed video/audio over firewire support with Vegas, but you would need a RAID system with the laptop in order to do that.
All the conversion is real time. Control of the deck via RS-422 will also improve your speed as will frame accurate inserts edits (if tape is the final output).

I love it, I've installed it in a few broadcast locations. I'll have one at the National Religious Broadcasters event next week if you're in the Anaheim area.

I'll pass your crystallinely-clear stated info on. and, as always, glad to know you're all out there- and kickin it large. (and I'm not sure I have any idea what that really means- it just slips out...)
