Using Vegas 6.0 to create VCDs - No Audio?!

Jasonh wrote on 2/23/2007, 2:39 PM
I am creating a VCD for a friend. I chose MPEG1 option, and chose as the template the "NTSC VCD" selection. Everything seems fine, but for some reason there is no audio when I play the rendered file. What gives? When I import the MPEG1 file back into vegas the audio appears and plays just fine. When I take that MPEG1 file and make a VCD using Nero software...still no sound. Any suggestions?

Might be a problem with your Vegas version or install...

Just tried creating a short clip in the VCD format, & plays fine in wmplayer 11 & Nero 6.6

I've used Tsunami MPEG Encoder - TMPGEnc - for VCDs. It's MPEG1 remains free. Great encoder for VCDs.

Absolutely. The mpeg-1 encoding that Vegas and the MC encoder produces is abysmal, particularly if the video is not pristine.
As Grazie said the TMPGEnc one for free is very good, so good in fact I bought the full version from Pegasys even though I only use the mpeg-1 encoder.

Authoring in Nero is quite good.

Back when I was doing a lot of VCDs I tried to hunt down a full blown VCD authoring tool but to no avail, Philips of all people seemed to have one that looked like it cost big money so I never followed it up.

How did you try to playback the VCD? I have a DVD player that is connected to an AV receiver using a 5.1CH toslink connection. For whatever reason when I insert a VCD into the audio is only sent to the player's L-R RCA stereo outputs (which at the time I did not have connected to the AV receiver).

Just another possibility.
