Using VOB Files, etc.

Hello all,
I wonder if anyone can tell me how to take the video_ts files from a completed DVD that I had returned to me from a job I did long ago, and use the files located on the DVD to reload into Vegas to edit? I keep getting the video from the VOB files, but no audio. When I was using Sonic MyDVD, I could just pull off the MPG2 files to re-edit if there was a change needed to be made, but Vegas DVD won't allow the same...

See:

VOB files

Do a search on my name and "VOB" for more posts.

Some people report that they can only get one minute of VOB to show up on the timeline. I have not had that problem.

I hope Sony understands how vitally important it is to make it easy to re-use content that we previously put onto DVD. Within a few years, a large amount of our video assets wll be on shiny disks, not on tape, and we've got to be able to do something with them besides just watch them.

Sounds like your audio was AC3. Vegas won't read AC3 audio. You will need to get a program to convert the VOB back to AVI and then Vegas should read it fine.

albaby, if you follow the link in my previous message, you'll find that I recommend DVD2AVI as the program to use to convert the AC3 file to WAV so you can get the sound back into Vegas. The correct solution is for Sony to enhance Vegas so it can import the VOB, along with the soundtrack(s) of your choice, back into Vegas. If Vegas (and/or DVDA) eventually provides support for DVD subtitles, then these should also be extracted and put on the timeline.
