I was constantly battling "Media Offline" errors in MSP 14, so I upgraded to 17. But now every time I open one of my vf files v17 crashes. Please help. How do you actually get technical support on this/?
If things were already going bad in version 14, I'm not sure leaping to version 17 is going to fix things. Media Offline errors are not an indication of a shortcoming of the software. They likely indicate that something is going buggy on your operating system -- or that you're moving files around or connecting to files on external hard drives.
My recommendation would be to fix what's going on with version 14, and maybe even to finish your version 14 projects in version 14. Use version 17 for starting new projects for now rather than trying to open buggy version 14 projects. And if you're still getting errors in version 17 with new projects, consider that there is something serious up with your system.
What operating system are you using? Is it a 64-bit operating system? Which processor do you have with how much RAM? How much free space is left on your hard drive?
Media Offline would happen as follows - I have an MP4 file on my local hard drive. Start a new project in MSP 14. Drag the MP4 file in and it shows Media Offline. Tried all the usual fixes, changing preferences, etc. This does not happen when I do the same things in MSP 17.
For this specific issue (files crashing), it only occurred when the MSP files contained a "Media Offline" in the project - to your point, these issues were related. Other files worked fine. So to solve this specific problem by opening the offending file in MSP 14, delete the clip that showed media offline in the timeline and from project media, saved the file.. then it would open in MSP 17.
No idea why media offline was happening in MSP 14, but I've paid for the upgrade and doesn't seem to be happening in new version.
