HI all.
I have been using 32 bit V Pro 11due to some comments on this forum. What is the advantage of using 64 bit version? And those using 64.. is it stable now?
i Have windows 7 64
IMHO the key advantage of 64-bit is being able to access far more RAM. 32-bit can only access about 3GB and Vegas really struggles with this limitation.
In DV days this wasn't so critical but with HDV and esp AVCHD it's a serious issue. I'm currently running 8GB and Vegas 10e is extremely happy and a delight to use.
Don't trust V11 yet for pro work so I'm just dabbling with it till all the bugs are sorted. I do use the New Blue Titler Pro in V11 and it is really great. I then render title clips and drop them into my V10e projects. Not ideal but it certainly works!
Vegas Pro 11 build 512 is the first 64bit Vegas I've ran. All others have been 32bit on 32bit OS's.
I'm on a (not so strong) Mac running Windows 7 64bit natively via Bootcamp and I am noticing a difference in performance. For the first time since having V11 I'm actually able to open NB TtterPro without freezing or crashing. I've also been getting decent playback with multiple layers and preview out to a 24" monitor while using 2 x 20" for editing.
My performance:
- Vegas 11 is noticeably more responsive than ever. (PC)
- Premiere Pro CS5.5 is blazing fast. (PC)
- Premiere Pro CS5.5 can be a bit unresponsive. (MAC)
- Avid Media Composer 6 is acceptable. (PC) (MAC)
- Final Cut Pro 7 is 32bit slowness. (MAC)
- Final Cut X (iFCP) collects dust. (MAC)
I was never able to get this performance from Vegas on my 32bit systems which tended to push me into the arms of Premiere & FCP most of the time. I've currently got a contract where I was explicitly asked by an independent to edit w/Vegas; first time ever, so I installed V11 64bit via bootcamp. I'm very glad that I did.
My faith has been restored! (now watch, all I'll get will be crashes from here on out)
I would love to be able to run 64 bit. but I have trouble with some severe compression artifacts in the form of text ghosting and banding using any/all the different Text plugin's. The 32 bit is not nearly as bad about this for some reason and the render times don't appear to be any different between the 2 versions so for right now I have to stick with the 32 bit. 32 doesn't crash as much either.
Vegas Pro 11 has been stable here from day one. I have been exclusively 64-bit for two years and really happy with the performance. The NewBlue plugins and titler are really nice, but they are resource hogs - which is where the access to my 8Gb of RAM helps.
