V12 - Can't render to MainConcerpt mpeg-2 for DVDA

cityanimal wrote on 9/30/2012, 11:51 AM
I tried rendering .m2t files on the timeline to MainConcept mpeg-2 dv widescreen dvd architect template and V12 crashed multiple times after several minutes of rendering. I haven't tried making a dvd from the timeline yet, however. I tried project properties set as the source footage - hdv, and with the properties set to dv widescreen but no luck. Anyone else having this problem or can offer help?

No problem in PAL land. Mainconcept Widescreen video stream & matching Dolby Digital AC-3 Pro audion. Accepted into DVDA without problems.

Likewise Print HDV to tape also works which is a great after my experience with the first release of VP11.

Of no help to you but I have exactly the same problem with Vegas 11 pro. Can't render to Mainconcept mpg2 templates.

Does it crash at exactly the same place every time? If not, it may be a heat related problem. MPEG2 encoding uses a lot of CPU horsepower and that generates far more heat than just editing. If your CPU cooler can't keep up, it can cause crashes. When was the last time you opened up your machine and blew the dust out of the CPU cooler with a can of air or an air compressor?

It doesn't always crash at the same point so I'm gonna take your suggestion and try giving the machine's fans a good compressed air cleaning. Thanks John for your help.

Can try it GPU assist on/off in Vegas, can try it with different format source video on the timeline, can try taking a look at Vegas with Sysinternals Process Explorer, finding out what other files/DS filters etc. are being used during render.

Might be graphics driver issue with decoder graph/chain for video on timeline, &/or for video render, GPU assist on or off in Vegas. Might be related to or caused by other video handling files/DS filters you've got installed. Might be Vegas misbehaving, though I would think you'd find loads of reports on-line if 11 or 12 crashed rendering DVD mpg2.

FWIW for me the 12 beta was slightly faster than 11 64, but 'bout the same as 11 32 because of other software installed that sped up video handling, rendering to DVDA templates as mpg. Just got done rendering one file that way in 12 with ~40% GPU & ~47% CPU.

If you're concerned about heat, I run HWMonitor from CPU-ID, though many manufacturers have their own utilities. You should be able to see the temps heading north before you get near shutdown limits -- as the CPU starts getting close to the limit expect errors. Same goes for graphics but they can generally take a LOT more heat & often all it takes is using something like MSI Afterburner to change the fan speed curve so it speeds up more, sooner.

Nothing wrong with blowing out fans etc. with air, but be aware there are reports of screwing up graphics cards for example by spinning the fans at too high speed -- electric motors can work as generators too. We use pieces of air purifier/filter prefilter material [like a course but very porous charcoal mesh] on the critical air inlets of our cases -- have to change those once or twice a month, washing them out, but keeps the dust bunnies out of the innards.

Cleaned the fans and then Render to MainConcerpt mpeg-2 for DVDA widescreen was successful today. I think what did it was making the project properties match the output settings and especially with making every event have crop settings to match output settings.
