V19 Crashes when playing on the timeline but not the trimmer??

Hi,

I've just had to replace my Nvidia Geforce RTX3080 graphics cards as the last one failed. Now whenever I press to play a clip on the timeline V19 crashes, I don’t even get an error report, just a grey screen of misery with the spinny wheel. The thing is footage plays on the trimmer but not on the timeline. I’ve tried with the GPU switched off, the same thing happens. I’ve tinkered with File I/O again but nothing helps. I’m using Nvidia Studio by the way and I’ve upgraded to the latest V19 patch

So all fingers point to the GPU?? So I wondered if anyone has any suggestions?

Philuk, if you want to know what Vegas finds when it starts looking at your GPU open this file with note pad C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\19.0\gpu_video_x64.log
It tells you what Vegas finds and if it can use your GPU.
Also post some info on the media you are using.

Quick update. I've just upgraded to V20, still got the same thing ?? Vegas diagnostic doesn't come up with anything.

I then went into V20 preferences - File I/O and selected RAW Processor - CUDA on Nvida Geforce RTX3080 and Hardware Decoder to Use - NVDEC on Nvidia Geforce RTX3080 and it's now working on V20 but those options aren't available on V19.

Does this explain the issue?

The GPU processing log shows Vegas found compatible devices both with your GPU and CPU inbuilt GPU. Not sure why V19 does not show the same options. Anyway V20 is the better choice and the way forward.
The next step would be to see what is inside the MOV wrapper ie post the detail of your media, used Media Info tool (free).
Also under Options - Depreciated Features - do you have the enable Quicktime box checked?

Sorry for late reply Andy, as I've more or less got V20 going I'm, as you said, moving forward. Thanks for your help though! Just got to sort out the pesky drag and drop issue and how to stop th request box 'Add to time or Add to Track' which pops up when you do drop a clip on the timeline...unnessary feature to my mind.

Thanks for the update, I am finding V20 403 to be the most stable version so far based on my media (Sony XAVC 4K 25p at 100mb/s) and GPU 1080Ti. My CPU is an old gen 3 i5 at 4GHZ but it works fine with V20 and all the functions work fine. Also my preferred renderer after much testing is Voukoder set to VBR min rate 65 max rate 130 two pass which gives a ave data rate of 66MB/s and 500mb per min file size and outstanding quality even on fast moving complex shots.
