V4 will not render to wmv9 for me

TorS wrote on 2/24/2003, 3:46 PM
Okay, I took the plunge.
The first I wanted to try with V4 was to render an old project (VV3c) and see if I could find any improvements. No go. Got message: An error occurred while creating the media file .... Error 0xc00d0bc4 (message missing).
I've mailed SoFo tech help, but they probably have their hands full. So, do any of you good people know what's going on? By the way, it seems to be wmv9 only - I could render wmv8 no prob.

Try running the WMVDist2.exe program in the Vegas 4 subdirectory.

If you can't find the WMVDist2.exe file, you can also check out the Knowledge Base entry available Here for the link to this file from Microsoft's website.

Thanks SoFo. Running V3 on Xp with same problem. Your link fixed it up nicely. Grob

Perhaps I should have said: I'm on Win98SE. And the file (I think you'll find it's called wmfdist2.exe) did not solve, nor change the problem.
Mine is a BE6-II motherboard with Pentium III 800 MHz processor, 768 MB RAM with DirectX 9. Any more ideas, please?

TorS,

That error code corresponds to "video codec not found". What video codec were you using (or what template did you select if you were using one of the built-in presets)?

We will try to repro your problem here. Do you have the Windows Media Player and/or Windows Media Encoder installed, and what version?

Note: The redist update mentioned is for the WM8 plugin, not the WM9 plugin you are having difficulties with.

Good. I have no problem with WM8.
I select WM9 - 3Mbits setting.
I have installed MP9 and uninstalled it again. Trying to install the WM codec (WM9Codecs.exe) I got message: Latest codecs already installed. I am using Zoomplayer.
I tried to install Media Encoder last night, but got hold of the Win2000/XP version and aborted.

While on the encoding subject (and not meaning to change topics), I too have a strange problem, but with v3.0c.

I have the AVI file that was created by rendering to new track (uncompreessed DV) and am trying to encode it using the WM9 encoder. It barfs with 'requested audio codec not installed'. WM8 encoder has no problem with it.

Can you shed some light please?
Many thanks
Tom

pauncz,

The WM8 encoder in Vegas uses different system DLLs, etc. than the Windows Media Encoder 9. Perhaps that is why the former works for you but not the latter.

For anyone who is experiencing problems encoding to WM9, and getting error 0xc00d0bc2 (audio codec not found) or error 0xc00d0bc4 (video codec not found), we need to know some more information about your system in order to track this down.

1. What Windows OS are you running? Are you running a localized (non-English) version of Windows?

2. Have you installed any service packs, and what version? Did you install them before you installed Vegas 4, or after? (install order can be very important for us to reproduce the problem here)

2. What have you installed on your system, in particular DirectX (DX) version, what version of the Windows Media Player and/or Windows Media Encoder? Did you install a beta version of the software?

3. What other third-party software do you have installed, such as other video editing software, media players, etc.?

(I'm changing your count to 1, 2, 3, 4)
1. Win98 SE (4.10. Build 2222) Norwegian.

2. Except for things to do with Internet Explorer I've installed everything that was recommended by Windows Update - before I installed Vegas 4.

3. Direct X 9.0 (4.09.0000.0900), Media Player has been installed (not the beta) uninstalled and reinstalled. I have Windows Media Player system update (9 series), but not the Encoder.

4. I have AllInWonder 128 drivers.
Delta 66 drivers.
Digital Orchestrator Pro (Voyetra),
Finale 2003,
SoFO: Sound Forge 4.5h, Batch Converter 5.0b, MP3 plug in, Vegas Video 3.0c.
Nero burning software.
Plex Tools.
PaintShop Pro 7.
Turtle Beach Pinnacle Patch editor.
And drivers for my Turtle Beach Pinnacle Multisound card (like a vintage Jaguar among soundcards).

I have a BE6-II motherboard with Pentium 3, 800 processor. 768 MB RAM.

That's it. I really hope you solve this one.

I am having a different problem - wmv9 works fine form me, but I cannot render wmv8. I get the "(message missing)" thing.

ll600,

MBerger's post above in this thread should solve your problem. To get to the solution, click on the "Here" link in that message (it's in the FAQ).
