V5.2 build 133 - blu-ray burning issue

Prior to build 133 release, I could trick DVDA into burning BD ISO files on to a DVD+R disc if the ISO file was under 4.7 GB in size. Those discs played back fine on my BD player and were blu-ray quality videos.

Now, the DVDA says I have to insert a blank BD disc and won't burn the ISO file to a DVD+R disc anymore - bummer since BD discs are much more expensive. It was nice to be able to burn drafts of smaller projects on DVD in case there was a problem in the video.

Anyone else had this problem or used DVDA that way before?

Have you got your properties set up for DVD Media and BluRay Format?

Properties are opened under the File menu.

Yes, same for me, except that I tried DVD-RW. The original 5.2 version (build 124) works, however. I think build 132 has some issues, so I don't recommend it.

You can get build 124 (dvdarchitectpro52.exe) here, if you don't already have it.

I know some people complained that AVCHD on DVD media, prepared by DVDA, would not play in some Blu-ray players. I had to use a program called AVCHD Patcher to make them play in my Panasonic Blu-ray recorder. So it looks like rather than fix the problem, SCS pulled the plug instead. They did the same for smart rendering AVCHD in Vegas Pro. Version 9.0c is the last version that will smart render AVCHD (under certain restrictions).

I burn very few discs these days. Instead I create a .iso image (complete with menus) instead and play it from a USB hard disk, via my media player, into my TV. Perhaps you should explore that option.

So far as drafts are concerned, if you still want an optical disc to try out, you should consider using BD-RE (rewritable) discs.

Another popular free burning program is ImgBurn. I don't know whether it will solve the current problem or not, but it is worth a try.

The drop down options for bluray on DVD media have been removed in the latest build. I think this is a bug.
