V5: Applying "Match Output Aspect" on entire track

dand9959 wrote on 5/10/2005, 5:16 PM
Is there a way to set Match Output Aspect to "On" at the track level, say, through track automation?

I tried setting it in the track motion interface (by rt.clicking on the workspace), but that seemed to do nothing. I've got a coupla hundred stills, half of which I need to match the output aspect.

Select all the events on the timeline and run the AspectRatio.js script from the VASST web site. (Just download it and place it in your Script Menu directory under the Vegas directory and use Tools > Scripting > AspectRatio)

No.
What you can do, is use a free script, found on the VASST site, or you can use a tool like StillMotion, Excalibur, or Ultimate S to accomplish this.
You can also match aspect on the first event, copy, and then paste attributes to all events.

Thanks, John.
Downloaded, put into correct directory, rescanned, selected an event, and then selected tools->scripting->aspectratio.

Got this error message:
--------------------------------------------------------
Compilation error on line 38:

Variable 'TrackEvent' has not been declared

System.ApplicationException: Failed to compile script: 'C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas 5.0\Script Menu\aspectratio.js'
at Sony.Vegas.ScriptHost.RunScript()

Is this a V4 vs V5 compatibility thing? (I'm using V5)

Yep it’s a Vegas 4 vs vegas 5 thing. Change the 4th line from this:
import SonicFoundry.Vegas;
to this:
import Sony.Vegas;
and it will work. Sorry about that.

Now I haven't looked to see if this is possible but...

Wouldn't it be nice that once you select several clips, whatever you apply ( aspect, filter, etc ) is automatically applied to each selected clip.

Seems like an obvious feature....

You can! Just set one event up the way you want and right-click on it and select Copy. Then select any number of other events and right-click and select Paste Event Attributes. All the other events will get whatever cropping or FX you applied to the one you copied.

Yes, JR, but as you say, you get ALL the atribs of the other clip. Would be neat if one could have a drop-menu that listed those atribs and you copuld "pick-off" those that you DIDN'T want. And as has been mentioned there are 3rd party great tools for this job . . . It would be neat if these same 3rd party tools could bring in these selection option too! I suppose as Vegas matures and these 3rd party tools do so too, then these finesses will emerge - like wizards from the mists of knowledge. . . .

"like wizards from the mists of knowledge......"

Actually Grazie, more like Adobe Premiere. :)

Oh? You get this function in Prem? - G

Hi Grazie. Yes, the Premiere paste attributes command brings up a dialogue that lets you choose which attributes you want to paste. It's been there since at least Version 5.1. Wish Vegas had something similar, especially for pasting the style of a text event without pasting the actual text.

By the way, sorry for the prosaic explanation, yours is so much more descriptive. :)

Wow! That WOULD be neat! - I have never used Prem. I'm just a through and through Vegas Addict. - Richard thanks for the explanation . . . G :)

I had several stills that I had to rotate, and the script applied the aspect ration strangely to those clips. (Maybe not "strangely" but the results did not fill the screen as expected.) So, undo that.

Then I used John's and Spot's recommendation of fixiing up the 1st still with matching output aspect, then selecting all the others and copy/pasting those attributes. As has been mentioned, that pasted ALL the attributes. So, undo that.

In the end, I realized that even if I got the "apply matching output aspect to all stills" to work in some manner, each individual photo would STILL require individual attention to pan it so that the proper portion of the photo was onscreen. I might as well AR match each one by hand since I have to touch each one individually anyway.

Oh well. Say, "lah vee".
