V5 Print to tape problems

Finished editing my first 1hr-35min project in V5. Tried to print to tape - picture is jerky and audio comes and goes (mostly goes).

PTT preview is also exhibiting the same symptoms.

Rendered file plays fine if I right click it and hit play (WMP).

Also, I still have V4 loaded, and can print to tape or preview from PTT just fine from that version.

Anyone have any clue what could be causing this?

My machine is a .9 gHz with 384mb/100 RAM - project is recorded to a 7200 rpm external firewire drive.

I, personally, tend to discount this as a hardware problem because V4 works flawlessly - but, then, again, I don't know.

Perhaps there is some setting that's new in V5 that I need to tweek.

Suggestions welcome.

Thanks.

Thats a tough one---considering that the same project is printing fine when rendered from version 4.0. I assume that you have your presets for NTSC, Lowerfield first, framerate 29.970,, pixel aspect ratio 0.9091, blur gaussain, blend fields

Thanks for the reply. In rendering this piece, I used the NTSC-DV template without alteration. Result is an AVI that works just fine everywhere except within V5 PTT.

From WINXPPro explorer, I can right click on the file and play it.
I can load it into V4.0 and preview or PTT.

In V5 vidcap, it's all sputters. Go figure.

Found the problem. I had installed a new 160 GB HD as a slave on my secondary controller. Then purchased/installed V5, then discovered that avi files would not play properly from that HD setup (I've tried new 80-conductor connectors - no joy). Drive can accept renders - just can't play them back - I have to transfer to another drive.

Anyhow, I didn't discover that problem until after I had installed V5 - and the program has worked fine for editing and rendering - I hadn't tried to capture anything yet.

Discovered just now that I had installed V5 on that same "slow" drive.

Just now uninstalled/reinsalled to another drive - everything working fine now.

I'll have to take that drive off that controller, I guess.

Doesn't make much sense leaving it there if I have to move my biggest files to another location to make use of them.

Thanks again for the reply.

Good sleuthing Caruso. Please, for anybody else with similar problems (can capture/preview/print with V4, can't with V5), please check your V5 install and folder paths. Match all paths with those that worked in V4 and you should be set.
