Yup, was just fiddling with it today.

i beleive you've got to give the layer names very specific titles for V6 software to recognize them as layers....at least, that's true for DVDA3

I was to quick to respond---I thought you were speaking of DVD Arch.

I been messin around for an hour and cant get any where but flattened image, no mention other than in DVD Arch, Seems kinda weird though if DVDA has it, I would think Vegas does. Am I missing something. again ?
Oh well gotta go to work, play around some more later
Thanks

Vegas 6 does not support separated layers in a PSD file.

Well, DVDA has a very specific use for layered still images -- making menus. Each layer acts as a background, a button, a frame, a highlight, or a mask.

What specific use would there be in Vegas for layered still images? Keeping in mind that you can't move or alter individual layers or add new content between them (in DVDA).

Well....if you built a title set in Photoshop for Vegas, and if Vegas saw the layers, you could manipulate each layer on separate tracks as graphic elements. I do this now, except I use the separated layer export/save in PShop to do this. The only thing that reading separated layers would give me in Vegas is separate tracks vs me creating separate tracks, one per layer. So, it would save a very small amount of time. Plus, Vegas would likely group the layers together, saving me the trouble of CTRL+Clicking them all to create a group.
So, there are some benefits to separated layers in Vegas, but it wouldn't save a *ton* of time.

but would be good in organizing your files. You could have 1 PSD vs 10.

I too have been wondering about this for a while -
So you might save a little time and there would only be one track used with a layered file, supposing Vegas supported this. (And Boris Red does for instance)

But what other than that would be the advantage - often layers are used for various adjustments that I can't see what would be further accomplished by separating them for Vegas. Masking layers? maybe -- Anyway I am interested in where the use of layers in any video app would be either useful or creatively advantageous

Ex: You have a project where a picture is on the screen, 5 lines of text to appear one at a time finishing with all five on the picture. This happens a bit in some of the videos we do, so this scenario occurs 20 times in a video, Layers would let me create 20 Photoshop files and load those into Vegas instead of 100.
Just one simple reason it would be useful.

Do you have an example?
