V6 avi won't PTT from V4 timeline

I did a short graphic sequence in V6 for a friend, rendered it as a standard PAL DV avi, took it to his place and put it on his V4 timeline. It previewed fine, but when he tried Printing to Tape from the Timeline, it stopped and threw up an error message when it got to my avi.

Told him to render his whole timeline to a single avi and try Capture Utility to PTT - thankfully this worked ok.

I'd be interested to learn what happened, though.

Oh!

Just repeated as much of the process I could. I do have V6 ON the same PC . . so take that into account:

1/- Rendered a piece of V6 to AVI

2/- Openned a V4 veg IN Vegas4

3/- Imported AVI from 1/-

4/- Put V6 clip inbetween V4 clips in V4 veg.

5/- PTT using DV Control

No problems! PTT-ed fine NO error message at all.

These were short events and the whole PTT was about 30 seconds - nothing BIG and there was no renderering of compos or FXs

As I said, I DO have vegas 6 on the same machine so I'm assuming the registry info is being shared with and amongst Sonic Foundry and SONY here? Yeah? So this might not be a conclusive experiment. But yes, I can do what you would have expected. If you still V4 try it out on your setup? Perhaps you have? Perhaps you haven't?

For the benefit of anyone else, good old Grazie emailed me with this privately also - I don’t have V4 installed any more – I usually just keep the “previous” version for a while till the new one is “solid”, which for me 6.0b has been.

But, Grazie may have hit on something – my friend does not have V6 (that’s why he’s still using V4!) and there may be “invisible” registry differences.

I can’t test anything right now, since he was off to Malaysia the day after he had to get that project out, but I’ll do some more tests when he gets back.
