Do you overlap?

I think it's always done that!
When you separate them the fades reappear.

I was attempting to ascertain if "together" was the same as "overlap" - yes? - G

NO OVERLAP. Just butted up together. A simle cut.

I had same problem in Vegas 5.0 last night. I was butting the clips together and found if there was any overlap at all (including a partial frame) the fades go away never to be seen again until they are reinstalled.

A bit annoying but probably not a Vegas 6.0 bug.

Butt together, THEN put fades to and from BLACK on each Event. I don't see the problem? - G

I've had this problem crop up intermittently since I started using Vegas (Version 3 up to and including Version 6). I can butt two events, with fade to black, together (no overlap) and the fades will disappear. If I attempt to drag the corner to reinstall the fade I am unable to do so. If I move the events to a different location on the timeline or increase the size of one of the events by a frame or two (thereby moving the location of the butt on the timeline), I am then able to add the fade(s) without a problem. (Leads me to believe it's a timeline problem)
It's most annoying and I'd like to know the solution to it.

Grazie - I am afraid the problem is pretty much with the editor being in a hurry and not thinking ahead then having to spend twice as much time fixing it. But it is a lesson learned.........

New one for me! Nope, it's working here in London!

I've had the same thing happen in V5. But, for me, it would always turn out to be an overlap issue. If I zoomed in on the timeline I would see that when I dragged the clip to "butt" up to the previous one, I actually had overlapped it very slightly.

I have noticed that if two clips are really "butted" then there is a small triangle that is formed. But if one is overlapped then only half that triangle shows up.

From that experience I am trying to get all the clips where I want them first and then go back and put any fades in that I want.

It is not just a V6 bug, it is a V3, V4, V5 and V6 issue.

Sometimes it behaves like that, sometimes it does not.

When you hear complaints about long term bugs, this is one of them.

Is there a way in V6 to "instantly" zoom in (MAX Zoom), and then "Instantly" zoom back to the exact setting you had before you zoomed in?

I know that it can be done clicking and twirling, but it is a multi-step process (the way I know), and without care it doesn't return to the exact state you had before zooming in.
