V6 Dynamic RAM Preview: Max Increase Possible?

Soniclight wrote on 8/29/2007, 3:18 PM
I have 32-bit XP Home with technically 4 Gb of DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Dual Channel -- but XP can only recognize up to about 3.5. The remainder goes to hardware, i.e. vid card. But that still leaves me with some wiggle room.

My current Vegas 6 Preferences/Video/Dynamic RAM Preview max is set at 1024 Mb. which is only 1 Gb. I'd like to double it if possible for my system RAM/CPU meter shows plenty left over, even when rendering out a file.

Any thoughts, advice? Thanks.

Probably a stupid thought, but have you tried typing in a bigger number?

I don't have more than 1GB on any of my systems so i can't try the experiment, sorry.

I've done that :) Up to the max allowed so far: 1024 Mb.

I think that must be the limit. Keep in mind that Win32 limits each program to 2GB (combined RAM and paged memory) so you're allocating half of what's possible for Vegas.

As far a I know, the limit is the limit. I'm assuming this will change with a 64-bit version of Vegas on a 64-bit version of Windows, but that product hasn't been announce yet as far as I can see. Supposed to be released before end of year.

OK, maybe it is. No harm in asking though :)
