V6 Error: Com object failed to initialize

I was happily editing on my PC this morning when suddenly screen went blank . The PC did not even complain. It just died. It was n't the PSU. Probably the mobo.
I have successfully transferred the files tro my laptop but I can not open the veg file or its previous incarnation. I get the com fail with

Never mind.
Just realized that I have titles in that project, using Cayman's Power CG. Unfortunately the graphic app uses a parallel port dongle. My laptop does not know what a parallel port is.
I am quite busy scatching my head.
