V6 problem getting ready for DVDA

I have had a bit of a problem getting a project ready for DVDA3. I have used both programs successfully, several times, and don't think I am making any new changes, but this is what is now happening"

I made my AVI in V6. Everything seemed well. I had normalized sound in many places. Was happy with the project when viewed on TV or my monitor. Printed to Tape - beautiful on TV.

I rendered as MPG2 using the supplied template in V6.

Went into DVDA3, loaded it as a single movie. Did a save as and named it. Then did a prep. Then a burn. According to DVDA, it was a successful prep and burn.

The sound at the beginning, for about 5 seconds, was OK, but then started corupting and then disappeared about 30 seconds into the DVD.

I now look back and see that "Peaks not available" shows on the time line. I do NOT think it was like that when I did my prep.

I went back to V6. On a lark, I removed the Normailzation. Rendered same way, before the prep noted that the peaks WERE available. Did a prep, and now I get "Unspecified error." and it dies about 80% of the way through the prep.

Did all of the above again, rerendered, that is, but the prep still bombs about 80% through.

Remember, the tape plays flawlessly on TV after printing to tape. But, I can't do a prep now. Even though originally I was able to prep and then burn a bad DVD without audio.

Any magic going on here? Any ideas? Please!

Hmm! Slow weekend. Well, hope you don't mind my bumping this one. I REALLY am stumped and need advice.

You say you rendered using the "supplied" template in Vegas - can you be a little more specific? You shoudl be using the one specifically that says "NTSC (or PAL) MPEG2 for DVD A". In DVDA2 you would never use the default MPEG template as there are dire quality implications (not sure if it has changed for DVDA3). Also the specific ones for DVDA require you render the audio separately using the Dolby .AC3 format.

As a simple work-around (while we are trying to figure out the real problem) how about rendering your audio from your original Veg to a new file (using the .AC3 template) and then pointing your DVDA project to that audio file rather than the one you were using before.

Boy, did you hit it right on the head. I muchly appreciate it.

Wonder how I could go for so long without realizing that I was using the wrong template? Going to go back and RE-Render a few things.

I really appreciate your help. Goodness, now I love this forum.
