V6d dragging long clips

If I drag a half hour clip from the back of an hour and a half project to an open space in the front part of the project all hell breaks loose about half way there. It seems to double up on top of other clips in the full ripple edit mode. It does all kinds of doubles on the whole project. This has happened a lot so I use the undo then highlight the clip to be moved and copy and paste it. I also get caught up on highlighting after another clip is highlighted and you don't "De-highlight" the old clip first. Then when I highlight the new clip the old ones follow suit which then causes me to freak out. So I have to make sure the entire project has no highlights then highlight the next operation. I know it's one click but the old vegas didn't seem to be this sensitive. it's a pain in the neck to realize 50 steps later the rear end of the clip is doubled up and 50 undos isn't the cool way to go so I have to double layer everything to see the doubled clips then spend an hour putting everything back the way it is supposed to be. Also if you highlight a clip with out of sync sound and video (Purposely) and drag it the out of sync stuff doesn't move with the rest of the clip. So now I have to copy and paste all the time then come back and delete the old position taking more time. Quantize enabled with full ripple edit but it also does it with ripple edit off.

First I create an empty track. Move the clip that you wish to move at the end of the T/L to the empty track then slide it along that to avoid the problem you're having.

That's what exactly I do. Create another empty video track then drag it on that track. It works for small clips but if you try to drag it past the half way point of the project sometimes it stops, sometimes it doubles up. Why won't it drag out of sync video with in sync video? All of the out of sync video turns a different color and will not move even if selected.

Good question actually. I've been doing a bit of video only editing, I delete the audio and yet sometimes when I move the video Vegas shows a sync offset of almost a day, go figure.

Instead of Copy/Paste, do a Cut/Paste [Ctrl/x - Ctrl/v]. It's faster to do either of these rather than drag from one end of the timeline to the other.

For making sure nothing else is selected before you start selecting events for an operation, hit Ctrl/Shift/A to deselect everything.
