Do you have VLC installed? If so, try disabling it from running in the background or uninstalling it.

I'm sorry... I don't know what VLC is.

Terminal services are, for all practical purposes, Remote Desktop. VLC is a media player that sometimes causes problems with Remote Desktop which is built in to XP. It was just a shot in the dark.

For some reason, Vegas thinks it needs to contact another computer on your network or over the internet. You might want to check the program's permissions and that you do have full administrator rights. Are you accessing (or attempting to access) Vegas on another computer or a server? Have you done network rendering?

I don't have VLC, and haven't used Remote desktop on this computer.

I do have administrator rights, and haven't done any networking with Vegas. But what you describe makes me wonder if I removed something that Vegas is looking for. After I re-installed Windows, I turned off a bunch of non-essential stuff using services.msc to free up system resources (using the Black Viper site). I always do this, and it hasn't caused a problem before, but... the timing seems fishy with what you describe. I'll go back and check.

Thanks.

**Edited to add...**

Guess what? there is an entry in services.msc called "Terminal Services". Thanks, J. Your description is what clued me in.

ATTENTION Vegas Folk.... If you are going to disable useless services in Windows, Leave "Terminal Services" set to "Manual".

Thanks again, jrazz
