V7 render to Ipod

My wife got me the new 80GB Ipod for my birthday (today), I DL'd the $134 V7 upgrade, since V6 mp4's and the itunes converter was not working for me. The audio on the ipod is so much better than a nano, (probably a combination of more power and better earphones).

I tried using V7 MainConcept mp4 apple ipod template and then using a custom setting for 640x480 frame size, but itunes would not except that.

I wonder if I have a 640x480 Ipod? Will Vegas render to a 640x480 frame compatable with itunes, or do we need QTPro?

BTW the new itunes will only except contact/calender for Outlook2003 and later (which of course I don't have grr)

Are you sure it shouldn't be 320x240?

May be 640x480. They were announced this week. I don't know if they are actually available yet.

Try 320x240 first.

I rendered to 320x240 and got that on my Ipod.Looks pretty darn good for 2.5" display. Reading the specs, the dispay is only 320x240 pixel res, but it can accept 640x480 video?

Jeff, you were right the first time.
On the link you gave, next to Video support, it says
H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per sec.

When you select the mp4 template, go in to the Custom settings, change it to 640x480, render that you and see if your iPod will accept it.
Please let us know either way (my wife is considering one and I'd like to know if this will work). Thanks.

You could also go to abc.com and click on the "Million Hit Lowdown" then download one of the free season finale episodes from LOST or another show. Those are in 640x480 and you could test an official video clip just to make certain it wasn't the iPod.

jbjones, thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded 2 episodes of Lost, that itunes accepted and plays great. it has a bit rate of 128 kbps bit rate, total bit rate of 1547kbps?, 44.1 stereo, one show is 256 MB 23 minutes and the other is 920 MB 86 minutes. I can not find info that says what the pixel res is.

Now I need a dedicated storage drive just for my ipod ;^)

but if your IPod has screen resolution of 320x240 pixel then it makes no sense to create higher res data for it - even if it does show 640x480, it has to downsample the data to match display resolution. It's simply not possible to show 2x2 pixels of data on one physical pixel on the display :)
