V8.0c fails on render and V9.0b low in memory.

I was quite comfortable in 'me little world'. V8.0C was functioning well and I had just completed 3 long form projects ( 90 - 120 minutes ). Current project is 110 minutes. It has mix of SD and HD events. Lots of correction & Pan-Crop, and 3+ embedded veg files.
I had successfully rendered a MPEG2 file a few days ago for client to approve. Having done some changes. today very, suddenly,
1 - I could not drop a veg file on the time line. The render box appears and sits there. So rendered the veg file and brought the resultant avi in to the project. That worked fine.

2 - now I can not render the current project. It gets to about 80%, and the render box shows inactivity. The preview window show black frame.

I tried to render the project in V9.0b. Error message is 'low on memory'.

I am guessing, something has gone terribly wrong with either OS or the hardware.
Question is what?

I can try and complete the project on another PC. But how do I transfer various presets I have used in this project.

Ofcourse, Murphy's law come in the equation when there's a deadline.

Thanks for reading so far.

Found a work-around. Selectively prerendered in small sections. Rendered to AVI, again in small sections. Then render-to MPEG2 went thro fine. I am not sure what's gone wrong in middle of edit.
Try to work it out tomorrow. --- Time for bed.
