One of the features in V8 is enhanced scripting interface.
I'm hoping that means scripts will be allowed to do more. Would be very nice if all the functions of the new titler were to be scriptable, that could lead to some VASST improvements.
the only change between Vegas 4 & 5 script was changing "sonic foundry" to sony, right? As long as they don't change anything existing all the old scripts should work fine.
Free updates to all of the VASST Scripts (Ultimate S, infinitiCAM, GearShift, StillMotion, FM, etc.) that are compatible with Vegas Pro 8.0 will be available from the VASST web site.
Excalibur has been updated to work with Vegas 8. I'll make a link to that shortly after it's released. You cannot use the Vegas 6/7 version with Vegas 8. Just keep checking at www.jetdv.com/excalibur until the update is posted.
Any DLL based script will need to be updated. Any text based script will probably work - any that deal with markers probably need to be changed.
Some of the other tools will require updating as well (ie; Radiance, some of the New Blue tools), for Vegas 8.
Yes, VASST is working on new tools to take advantage of the new scripting opportunities, no doubt. ;-)
> ahhh... ok. so the dll's need to be updated to work with .net 3 I assume?
Yes, .net 2.0 would run .net 1.1 DLL’s just fine so we kept all of the VASST scripts at .net 1.1 for compatibility but .net 3.0 refused to even load the DLL’s so we now have to maintain two versions of all of our scripts. We hide this from you, the customer, so you don’t have to worry about it. The installers will install the correct version for your Vegas version but it does mean a lot more work for us. :(
If you look in the installation folders you will see UltimateS.dll & UltimateSV8.dll, GearShift.dll & GearShiftV8.dll, etc. The xxxV8.dll is the Vegas Pro 8 version. We just link to the proper version in the ./Script Menu.
As Edward pointed out, there were changes in the Markers API and some other areas so even non-compiled scripts may stop working if they use this part of the script API.
