V8 and multi core rendering

I've posed this question before and never got a straight answer... Is it possible for V7 or V8 to use more than 4 core processors at the same time? I have a dual quad core machine (8 cores) and would love to get all 8 of them cranking out during rendering. Currently, all 8 cores are involved in the render, but only at around 50% -- which is the equivalent of only 4 cores rendering at top speed. Right?? In V8 on the Preferences tab, you can adjust the number of cores used during rendering. Currently, the maximum allowed is "4". Has anyone heard if Sony plans to increase this maximum allowed cores used for rendering? Are there any settings that I can change to more efficiently use the cores that I have available?? Please Sony, I'm begging... let me use all 8 cores at top speed. Perhaps a great item to include in the next V8 update??? Thanks!

Well... there is something you can try but this is totally USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Hold the SHIFT key while you select Options > Preferences and the Preferences window will have a new tab called Internal. Select this tab and scroll down or use the "Show only" filter to get to Maximum Video Render Threads and change it from 4 to 8 and see if that helps utilize more CPU's. Then let us know if it works. ;-) (and if it doesn't just hold CTRL+SHIFT and start Vegas to reset ALL of your preferences but it will recover from bad tweaking)

BTW, I am currently researching the parts for a dual QuadCore PC. What motherboard did you use and do you like it? (assuming you built it yourself). It would be great if you could fill out the specs in your profile so we can see what you are using. Anything you can tell us about your PC would be greatly appreciated.

My computer was custom built from Boxx Technologies in Texas. It has 2- quad core 1.66 Ghz processors, 3 Gig RAM, 10000x speed hard drive. Have had it almost a year and absolutely love it. Would have liked to have a higher processor speed, but couldn't justify the extra $900 for the upgrade. Sorry, I don't know the name/brand of motherboard right now. I'm sure that it is in my paperwork....somewhere.

The procedure that you explained on how to increase the maximum render speeds -- why is that so dangerous??

It's "dangerous" because in the internal prefs, you can easily screw up Vegas and create all sorts of instability. Be careful in there. If you mess it up, you will need to reset Vegas.
