V8 and Sound Channels!

Hi all,

When I record with my Sony DCR-SR90E and open it in Vegas, I see 4 separate sound channels. Like the sound of the wind, sound of the vagues. One of them says "LFE'.

But when I record with my HC9e and open it in Vegas I only one sound channel!
How and why this happens? Because of recording settings?
What if I want 4 channels with my HC9?

In what cases having four channels is advantageous? Where and when to use it?
Should I learn this "LFE" or it is for high professionals?

Thanks in advance.

The sr9 records as DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 surround sound. The HC9 only records as 2 channel stereo.

"LFE" stands for "Low Frequency Effects" and is included in most 5.1 soundtracks. The tracks you wils see are:

Left front
right front
center
left rear
right rear

That's 5 channels. The .1 denotes the LFE track and is such because it's not a full channel and only carries low frequencies. The LFE track is really sort of considered more of a luxury because it's not TRULY needed. It's just there to place emphasis on things like explosions and such in your commercial home dvd's. It's the track that makes your coffee table shake so to speak in your living room to make things feel more real.

Unfortunately the lfe import is broken in Vegas and most of the time it will import as a flat line (which is not the way it's supposed to be)

The advantage of 5.1 sound is the same as stereo (you can tell direction) but is more detailed and instead of just being able to hear left and right differences, you can also hear front and back differences.
