V8: Missing script icons on toolbar

MRe wrote on 9/10/2007, 8:47 AM
I copied all my scripts to V8 script folder together with respective .png-files. Vegas for some reason fails to display the icons. Just the generic script icon is shown.

Couldn't get my own icons or e.g. Vasst-script icons (DVD prepare & PIP) to work.

Am I missing something here or is this a feature? On V7 everything works as it should.

You have to change the PNG files! :-( (It's a real pain when you have as many as Excalibur has)

Your icons are probably 16x32. What you need to do is take the top 16x16 and make sure you have at least one spot of transparency on it. Save that PNG and it should now be recognized by Vegas Pro 8.0.

Great! These kind of "features" I love: lots of work without any progress. You just revert to what you had earlier.

I hope that there is a real reason behind this.

And it seems that the app I'm having cannot make transparent pixels... Any suggestions for a good freeware icon editor?

And thanks Ed, your help is greatly appreciated.

I'm using Paint Shop Pro (which requires adding one spot of transparency in order to save a 32-bit PNG file.) Not sure what freeware apps may do that.

OK, I found an app named IcoFX and it seems to make the trick as long as I save the png as 16x16 (as you said).

IcoFX supports transparency...

In Vegas 8, icons for scripts and application extensions must be 32-bit 16x16 pixel PNG files. This change was made to resolve issues caused by 8-bit and irregularly sized icons such as disappearing icons, having the wrong image associated with a script, having icons that were not effected by the user's icon color preferences, improper transparency in icons, etc.

Normally you do not need any transparent pixels to create a 32-bit png file... maybe without them or more than 256 colors some programs will knock it down to 8-bit but others do not.

I've used the free Paint.NET image editor without problems.

You should not be copying the VASST Freeware scripts like this. They won't run anyway since Sony upgraded Vegas Pro 8.0 to use .net 3.0 so they all had to be recompiled and teaked. Just go to the VASST website and select the Freeware page and download the latest versions. They will all work with Vegas Pro 8.0 with the exception of DoubleTake (which would be moot since Vegas Pro 8.0 now does multi-cam)
