Blink, just guessing, but do you have net3.0 installed?
blink3times wrote on 9/10/2007, 5:31 AM
Well... I didn't go out of my way to install it.... only because the Sony install claims that it already includes net3... but I'll check just the same.

Hopefully, someone using the Vista Ultimate 64 and Vegas8 will comment soon. Good luck, post any discoveries if you can with your combination. Sooner or later everyone will end up with Vista, thanks for being the pioneer.

I have to say I'm NOT that impressed so far!

Won't open in vista... (I'll have to figure that out later)... bit of a piss off though. I bought vista64 at a heavy price specifically for vegas 64... and there is none. Meanwhile I can't even get it to open!

I did get it install and running on XP, but when I close the program I gat a memory read error at 0x01fb4e00

And it says "media manager not installed". What's up with that??

Sorry, but I've just gotta ask: What information made you think this release was going to be 64-bit?

don't mean to defend a guy who is obviously throwing out the hyperbole left and right but Sony did make the announcement in April that it plans to release a 64-bit version of Vegas by year end 2007. So many of us (including myself) upgrading systems this year bought 64-bit Vista with that in mind.

Now they may still be doing this but there is no mention of it coming down the road or what have you. You only see new software versions every 18 mos or so on average, so will there be that kind of a wait now for 64 bit?

Anyway, it looks like Vegas Pro 8 has some great features and is probably a good upgrade here for many. Look forward to all the reviews of it here.

The promises of 64-bit by the end of the year were pretty vague. They never explicitely promised an actual release and it might be that you'll only see a beta by year end. So don't start counting those chickens just yet.

Very sorry to hear that you went down this path on false assumptions. Give it a little time and you'll probably be able to get VP8 to work on Vista64. Let's hope, anyway.

Hey everyone, I asked Blink for his feedback about Vista 64 and vegas8, hoping that maybe in the end, it would work smoothly, showing everyone a roadmap. Blink has stated before that vegas "64" was his real interest and at NAB, Sony hinted it was coming.

Blink thanks for your feedback, I should have stately more clearly why I was asking. Did not mean to start an anti-blink or anti-vegas thread.

Running Vista 64 Home Premium.
I have not removed Vegas 7.0e as I want to finish a few things in 7.0e -- installed Microsoft .NET 3.0 first and then installed VP8 with no problem. Vegas installed in the Program Files (x86) directory (32bit)...opens very fast.

I see on the MS site that they offer net 3.0 in 32-bit and 64-bit flavors. Did you manually install net3.0 x64 or did you let the Vegas installer do it?

Vista 32-bit and 64-bit flavors come with .NET 3 installed already.

OK, so after installing on XP, I did the same under Vista x64 Ultimate and all is well, except that the new Media Library Manager (including only 32bit version of SQL Server, BTW) cannot open the Default Library at startup. New lirary can be created. BTW, the same happened to the v7 installation under Vista - the new MM 2.3 is not compatible with Vista! So, to sum it up:

1. SQL server 64-bit version choice is needed
2. The new MM is compatible with Vista, but the default Media Library is not

I re installed Vista 64 and everything seems (for the moment anyway) to work. Not sure... maybe I pulled a stupid and turned off some service that was needed... But at any rate all is okay now. Got a lot of programs to re install now though!

And forum admin is correct.... framework 3 is ALREADY included... on vista 64 anyway.
