Besides, it's v.1 of this new feature. A bit tricky to figure out, not for those with non 20/20 vision -- tiny key-frames and minimal interface. But do-able.
Not wanting to prempt anything Swarrine might like to add but just my two bobs worth.
In general the term "titles" means more than just text, it includes 3D motion graphics, just watch any high profile station idents, promos or just about anything that gets broadcast on major networks today, like American Idol.
Now I certainly don't expect to get all that in a $149 upgrade. Problem is to get that one does have to take your business elsewhere, but is that a good thing is the question. It's very pointless saying how good a deal you get for $149, if it doesn't get you what you need.
I dislike the titler's inability to justify blocks of text. Far, Near and Center (????) means, yes, Left, Right, and Center but there is no Justify (straight to the edge at both ends). Wouldn't that be a pretty basic thing to expect? And why the strange nomenclature? Those expressions sound like someone's attempt to be funny and fool us.
How is the "save" feature any improvement on what we had before? Another thing I really expected was to be able to tweak the titles directly on the project window -- somehow the YouTube demo we saw suggested that.

I'd consider that "broadcast design". And get a copy of After Effects to do that type of work (because it does 3D compositing, lets you deal with lots of layers and keyframes, etc. etc.). After Effects is a very popular program for broadcast design.
Glenn,
yes I have a copy of AE (the whole Adobe suit just about), prefer Fusion but not that wealthy, still kicking myself I didn't buy into Fusion around 2005, would have had it now for way less.
Problem is what AE can do seems to have become the benchmark, maybe some people's expectations are set too high, maybe it's just a question of sematics.
this bloke who started it doesn't seem to want to talk, i'd be curious as to what he thinks should be dif/better?
In fact just about every post he puts in, he's trashing something (mildly or otherwise), and he never returns to the post. so there's little point in continuing this thead.
I will try and answer all questions left on the forum.
For the can't please everyone and take my business elsewhere comments, I already have. I am still on Vegas 4.
Believe it or not I am a Vegas fan and a critic. They probably should make me a beta tester, better to know in advance my complaints... The most significant improvements after V4 IMHO are (finally) the fix to ripple edit and the "Z" axis. Curiously, if I am not mistaken the "Z" axis is missing from ProTitler.
At any rate I was looking for an intuitive, easy to use titler with more than 9 animated presets. I looked at Zaxworks as suggested and liked it. Zaxworks of course is much more than should be expected from a Vegas titler. More in that direction would be nice for those of us who don't want to spend the time hand creating animations. Maybe presets could be made that can be added to ProTitler.
Hi Rex, been some time glad to see you are still around.
I am also glad the old titler is still there. We teach video production here and all our computers are going to be replaced this winter. Yes, we will buy Vegas 8 for all of our new computers despite my criticism.
