V8 ProType Reproducable Cast Exception Error

dand9959 wrote on 9/14/2007, 9:14 AM
I can reliably reproduce a Microsoft .NET framework Cast Exception Error.

Depending on the complexity of the work you've already done on a title, this error may require a complete shutdown of V8 (using task manager) to get rid of it.

However, the simple way to create it:

- Start a New, empty, V8 project
- Add a Centered ProType Title
- Select Layout tab
- Enable Path checkbox
- Enable Position on path keyframing
- Add a position keyframe by double clicking at, say, 2 secs
- Change position of "Centered" by adjusting position slide bar
- Double-click on "Centered" boundary box to go into Edit Text mode
- Select Style tab
- Try to move/scrub the timeline cursor

It seems each of those steps are required in order to repro the error.

For instance, I noticed that if you do not select the "style" tab after going into text edit mode, you can scrub the timeline. If you have the Style tab open, you get the error.

Of course, I first encountered this the very first time I played with the titler. I managed to move the text via keyframes, then decided to change the color of the first letter in the text. Once I got to the Style tab in text edit, I noticed that the letter I wanted to change was off the edge of the screen. Simple. Just scrub the timeline until the letter was visible. d'oh!!!

No, not every step is necessary. Just to have a titler, where you incorporate keyframes for movent, then to use the edit mode, and then to start playback.

Depending on the system, Vegas crashes or you receive a warning message from .net. Seems to depend on the maschine.

A repro of that error has been transmitted to the Sony development team 2 days ago.

Hey it works !

I reported this problem my first day but didn't know what I did.

I just got the same error but didn't do anything quite so complex.
I simply dragged one of the preset transformations (Fly In) to the timeline and tried to change the text.
Any word from Sony on this?
...or maybe a manual...

I reported this, included the stack trace, told them to send it to dev (the stack trace should make it trivial to find) and got a message back that since they didn't think I needed a follow-up, the ticket would be closed soon (automatic I think).

I don't need a follow-up, but they should fix it.

More concerned about the 3D rendering problem in HDV though. Can't do any 3D compositing right now.

Can't do any 3D compositing right now.
A workaround is to use the Satish Plugn'Pak 3D tool. I prefer it anyway. Less elegant an interface, but very fast at render.

Spot,

Could you help me a bit???

I remember using the 3D plugin quite some time ago in Vegas 4 & 5 I think. For some reason I did not try and install in for more recent versions of Vegas. Now I am using VPro 8. I have downloaded Wax 2.0e. What path do I have install into for VPro 8 and once installed how do I get to the 3D plugin to use it?

thanks very much for your help on this.
