V8b - no audio after lauch

Christian de Godzinsky wrote on 3/5/2008, 3:53 AM
Hi,

This problem is consistent since I loaded Vegas 8b on my new PC.

After launcing Vega there is no audio output . To get audion I have to go to the preferences/audio device and reselect the ASIO audio device, even if it is already selected! This IS a nuisance that I probably can live with, but would like to know if there is a simple workaround, or the possibel cause for this anomaly.

My sound card is EMU-1212. I am running Vegas 8b Pro on XP x64. Can that be a reason for the problem? I have already checked that I have the latest audio drivers (64 bit) installed.

Anyone else that had problems with not audio output after launcing the app?

Best regards,

Christian

XP64 is not, never was, and never will be supported. That Windows seems to be best avoided on all counts - not just relating to Sony/Vegas..

Hi Geoff,

I know that Sony never have, and never will support XP x64. Such a pity. XP x64 is a very stable and reliable operating system. All my other applications runs smoothly on it. And its damn fast.

Quite many people are running VegasPro on XP x64 system, with no problems. I am one of them, ony this small anomality bothers. But I can live with it.

Having 8GB memory on the mobo requires an 64 bit operating system. And for me Vista is NOT an option...

If we one day would only see the promised VP8 64bit version... where is it?

Who promised the support you mention ? I think if you search the forums you will see it very clearly stated that XP64 is not and never will be supported, in response to a specific question from you.

Was Peter's reply not sufficiently clearly stated ? As much as you would like a version of Vegas adapted specifically for your requirements, it just is not going to happen. You need to accept this and make your future decisions based on that. If that means you cannot use Vegas, that is a pity.

Christian, while it's true about the support for XP 64, you should try posting in the video section. Much more traffic there. Just put OT before the title. (off topic) and mention you tried in the audio section. You may get more of the same responses, but somebody may know what to do. It never hurts to try.

I cannot reproduce this on Vista with my hardware (I am not using an EMU.) I do not have XP 64 set up to test against.

The only guess I have is that it has to do with the EMU drivers, but I don't know.

Hi Geoff et al.,

SCS did never promise support for Vegas on XP x64. This is clear. I am not whining because there will never be support for this operating system. However, I am entitled the right to my opinion, and say it out loud that it is a pity.

I appreciate Peter's input here very much. I appreciate that he tells things just as they are. Better to know the facts than listen to stupid excuses or fairytales.

I did not want to post a duplicate of this thread in the video section, even if there is much more traffic. After all, this IS an audio issue.

I have found out that the problem is probably in the EMU drivers. I neve blamed Sony for this problem, just asked in the forum if anyone else had stumbled over something similar...

My suspicion isa based on the fact that even the windows media player sometimes starts with only one channel active. Relaunching the application restores the situation, or mutes the other channel. This never happens with any programs if I use the mobo audio as the default output. I will bombard EMU next.

Peter, obviously you will never see this problem if you do not have the EMU HW - and the XP x64 bit OS (shame on me for still using it :).

Thanks Peter anyhow for your input, and to everyone else. Great forum :)

Best regards,

Christian
