V9 frozen at splash screen

Serena wrote on 6/19/2009, 9:18 PM
I'm running V9 on my laptop (Vista) and decided it is time to install on my editing machines with XP OP. Startup hangs while loading DirectX plugins and nothing I've found in help has helped change that. Any suggestions? Obviously v8c and previous versions run as usual. I have put in a ticket with a Sony analysis file.

This will happen if one of your plugins is corrupt or incompatible.

1) Start by renaming your Sony "Shared Plug-Ins" folder to "Shared Plug-InsX"
If this allows Vegas to load normally, sans plugins, create a new Shared Plug-Ins folder and start adding them in, one at a time, until you find the culprit.

2) An alternative approach is to rename your Shared Plug-Ins folder and reinstall Vegas, along with any other SMS products to restore the plugins.

3) If step 1) doesn't do the trick, think of any other apps or plugins that you have installed or upgraded recently that may have caused the problem and go from there.

I have the same problem. VST plug ins that run smoothly in V8 make V9 crash during start up.
I removed two Saffire Compressor plug ins after which V9 started up normally.
If you monitor the splash screen you will notice which plug in is being loaded during the crash point. That's how I found out which plug in was causing V9 to crash.
Believe me, V9 is a disaster. I still use V8 instead.

Thanks Rosebud, I've already been through that (and the knowledge base). In fact I don't think the knowledge base has been updated for V9; a tip on editing the registry details files that exist for v8 but not v9.
Musicvid, I'll look at that. Nothing else has been recently installed on the normally fine system.

Serena,
I probably did not read your post thoroughly enough before I responded.
It looks like a "V9 on XP" issue, less likely a corrupted plugin.

However, the principle is the same. If renaming your "Shared Plug-Ins" folder solves the problem temporarily, it will give you a good place to start looking.

I have always appreciated your contributions to the forums!

This may sound crazy but a while back we posted this here in the fourms about V8 hanging up and you have to hold the shift key down and then it will continue on here is the link

here on the forum perhaps this is what you are talking about

have you an up to date image file, or back up of some description?

if so, delete shared plugin folder, (or alt rename temp'ly) and see what happens. this is my shotgun approach, if it doesn't load, try plugin folder, if it does at lweast you know it's a plug in......

leslie

i feel your frustration

oops... i read musvid's already suggested similar prior to this post.....

Thanks guys. I'm doing some system housework and will resume the investigation when that's done. Meantime 8c works fine and really I'm waiting for 9a anyway. That thread on v8 hanging has many similarities.
