V9 - Print video to tape

dturnidge wrote on 5/23/2009, 5:44 AM
I have purchased V9 and have been pleased with almost everything.
I have done a few copy to tape procedures and have been happy with its lack of sensitivity to doing other things on the computer. Way cool.

However, tonight I have attempted to do a copy again, but this time get a dialog: "An error occurred during the current operation. The file name is not valid." I haven't done anything differently that I am aware of. I dragged an .AVI file onto the timeline, and the title at the top is "Untitled" as usual.

Any ideas? TIA.

Dave

I suspect it's talking about the name of the AVI file. Try renaming that and start again. Stick to English alpha/numeric characters.
The "Untitled" is just the name of the project which doesn't matter as far as I know.

The name is exactly the same as the files that I have used for the last 3-4 years: Demar090517.avi. The name is "Demar" followed by the date, YYMMDD....

I copied and renamed the file to "xxx.avi" - and still have the same problem. HELP!! (please?)

Well, I got around it - but not the way I wanted... I still have V8 on my system, used it, and it worked fine. So, the problem seems to be with V9. Still looking for suggestions...

Still looking for an answer as to why print to tape doesn't work for me in V9. It seems that there have been many problems reported in the past - and no one says anything about it, but when the next release comes out - all of a sudden it's fixed. It would be nice to know that it is an acknowledged problem before the next release. And then, if it ISN'T a software problem, that we can work to get it right.

In any case, I'm thankful for Vegas, and thankful that V8 still works for this process....

do you have media manager installed? if so, try uninstalling that and see if that helps.

That's generally the first thing I change in options when I get a new release...so, that has already been done. I am attempting to do it again today....and it failed again with V8.

One difference between V8 and 9 is that the checkbox for "Use project output rotation setting" is checked in V8, but not in V9. The option is "dimmed" so I can't change it. Don't spoz that has anything to do with it...

Installed 9.0a - Still can't print to tape. Really expected it to be automagically fixed... Glad 8.0 still works.

Dave, this is really dumb that it is still not working for you. Have you contacted SONY?
