V9 render - PAL SD to NTSC MPEG2 - Suceessful

I had a 110 minute SD footage in PAL, which needed converting to NTSC. No effects or cuts.
V9 rendered to NTSC MPEG2 stream (CBR) without problems.
With thread set to 4, render time was 116 minutes
With thread set to 2, render time was 115 minutes.

So I thought I would try to render in V8,
With thread set to 2, render time was 95 minutes.
My computer is core 2 duo with 4 GB of RAM and OS of XP Pro.

BTW, I found v9 to be friendlier this week. It did not freeze on me once, as opposed to last week's frequent freezes.

It probably needs to get-to-know the user. or
it's programmed, not to speak to srangers.

BUT
I shall work with V8 until I feel confident that V9 is as stable as V8

Don't laugh. That is my universal experience with any new software. Things go wrong at first for no reason whatsoever. After awhile, with no obvious change in behavior on my part, things start going well. My theory is that when you are learning a new software program (or even an update like V8 to V9) you do things that the programmers did not anticipate and things break. Once you stop doing the stupid things (that seem so intuitive) then you stop breaking the software and the crashing and burning comes to an end.

In any case, good luck with V9. After all it just needs to get comfortable with you. That shouldn't take long.

So far for me V9 has been great perhaps I need to hammer on it harder or something, because I have nothing to complain about

Mine was n't a complaint because I do not know which way the efficiency-tweak has leaned in developement of V9.
For me, render from SD to MPEG2 is regular work (108 minutes on timeline).
on V8, it took 95 minutes = 0.9 x real time
on V9, it took 116 minutes = 1.06 x real time.

For me, working in SD PAL, V8 is more efficient than V9.

BUT
I am not complaining.
