Well, I just got back to my regular computer with a major project that had been absolute hell to render. Downloaded V9 to give it a try and...
V9 crashes on opening the file. Trying to build the peaks it stops. A new feature comes up that says Vegas has stopped working, do you want to send it to SCS?? Cool, I guess. There is also the option of sending the media (400gigs worth-gulp!).
What's interesting is that V9 can't read the peak files from V8???? A whole batch of new .sfl files!
So I turned off building peaks and opened the project. It opened. I tried to render...no go. Tried MPEG2, AVI with different codecs, still crashes between 3 and 10% or so. So it would still be a piecemeal render.
Anyway, there is definitely something with audio going on. The errors are sometimes audio related, though I haven't been getting the error message yet in V9 to confirm that it is the same as V8 (sometimes in V8 I got the message and sometimes it just crahsed). I need to test it out more, but don't have the time...
I have a shorter version, that uses about 60% of the same media, isn't a surround sound project, and has a bit less color and FX, and that renders fine in both V8 and V9.
This longer one was only 40 mins, and had light CC compared to what can be done really. What if this was a feature length with heavy CC and all kinds of audio stuff going on? Can Vegas handle this?
V9, still haven't purchased...
