I think one of the problems is that the Audio People are not in this Forum much lately, It seems overflowing with video questions, and the audio questions get thrown to the wayside.
I doubt that is the case. Ever since Vegas Video was first released, it
has always been billed as "Vegas + video". It's always had the complete
feature set of the audio version with added video capability. Conversely,
Vegas Audio has never had anything that wasn't in the Video version. I
really can't imagine any reason for changing this policy. Audio has always
been SonicFoundry's strongest area, and one of the biggest selling points
of their video software is that it has all the power of their best audio
software as well.
I can't begin to tell you how many reviews i've read of both Vegas Video
and VideoFactory that started out with the reviewer saying, "I was a little
skeptical at first, but then figured that since this was from Sonic Foundry,
it must at least have audio features worth looking at ..."
