I have been working on this for a long time and am stumped.

I cannot import my VADO HD - .avi files into Vegas Movie Plat 9.0 When I try, I only get audio, no video.

THANKS for posting the relevant file details. It really helps!

Have you tried renaming the .avi file extension to say, .mp4 or .m2ts or .avc ?
I have no experience with your files, so this is just a guess.

If by chance, changing the file extension opens the video but not the audio in Vegas, you may have to demux the files first using another utility. Not a terribly complicated thing to do.

Can you upload a 30 sec. sample of the original .avi file somewhere? I have a couple of other ideas but would need to test them first.

It seems that this is h.264 inside the AVI container. Which means that you don't have a decoder for it installed on your system (Vegas' own h.264 decoders don't support AVI). It's easily fixable though:
Install the latest “generic build” of FFDshow at the “SVN builds by clsid” section. Make sure you’re downloading from clsid’s section. http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/files/
FFDShow will add h.264 support for the AVI container (funnily, I was testing exactly that just last night). However, expect the preview speed to be really slow.
