Mine too. I just upgraded from 17 to vegas 18 pro. It is virtually unusable. Vegas 17 pro wasnt terribly stable but 18 crashes non stop. I am not sure how to get it running stabilly.
If either of you want help you need to supply detail about your systems, the media you are using and when it crashes. There are pinned posts for how to do this.
Without that, we can't figure out what's going on. Vegas 18 isn't crashing for everyone (quite stable for me).
Those are the specs for my system above. I will put them here again. I shoot all my footage in 8-bit h.264 4k and 2.7k with:
- GoPro 7, Sony a6400, DJI Mavic Pro and Phantom 4 Pro
- i7, 6 core processor, 64gb ram, m.2 512GB main drive, 1TB SSD, radeon RX480 w/ 8gb video memory, windows 10 ultimate
Vegas 17 had issues, crashed occasionally. However, Vegas 18 is very unstable. Crashes consistently but at different moments. I feel like if I don't pace my clicks or switching from timeline to other panes in the software it will crash. If I do a task switch I'm guaranteed to crash.
What I would love is to talk with an actual, software engineer at Magix. I have a masters in computer engineering and developed software for aerospace systems. I used to be able to reach them (maybe it was still Sony then). However, the tech people don't often know what I'm talking about.
weinerschizel, I 100% agree with you. Magix needs to focus more on customer support. Where I used to be able to talk with a person with Sonic Foundry and Sony, I now can't get any issues resolved period, let alone in a timely fashion. I've been trying to get the same Canon 4K issue resolved since Vegas 17...which rolled over into 18. I've been asked to send a sample file for them to look at, but they never even told me how to send the file to them! The support website brings you in circles and the Vegas Support assistant is nothing short of a joke. If Magix wants professional editors to continue using their project, they need to take customer service more seriously.
I can't use it at all. When I start to lunch vegas pro 18 it crushes right the way, even do not open it. I di not have a problem with Vegas pro 17. For what I paid money I don't know. Anybody knows support teem phone number? Because live chat doesn't work.

I may have had the same problem... I did the trial version before I bought the upgrade. It seemed to run fine. I then bought the license for the upgrade and put it into the trial software. It ran well for a few days.
I started a new project in the software. It began crashing a lot. I began researching on what I could do to make the software more stable. First I installed latest graphics card driver. It worked again for about a day. I thought I'd fixed it. Now it's very unstable again.
My project would crash every time on loading the software, part way through launching the project. I had to cancel the project from auto loading (lower left hand corner next to load status). Then I loaded a smaller timeline. I could then load the larger project that was crashing on startup after I closed the smaller timeline / project.
Kind of ridiculous. I don't understand why I have to go through all that trouble to load my project. Then it crashes at completely random times.
I'm not for sure, but I believe vegas to be multiple pieces of software running in different processes. When you switch between the different sections in the software - especially project media, explorer, and effects windows it crashes. The timeline is most definitely it's own process, as once you go out of scope of the timeline the playback buttons don't work. I think this leads to stability issues. I have never been able to speak with any of the engineers at Magix (or Sony) though.
I know other editors like vegas but refuse to use it due to these stability issues. I understand Premeir is more stable. I used FCP for a while too and it never crashed, not even once in a 3 month course I took at community college for NLE.
