VASST countdown submission help needed

MH_Stevens wrote on 12/12/2005, 10:14 AM
To see just how the HDV entries were being delivered I looked at the entry by 2Grunge. It was a zip file size just 24.9K and after I unzipped it I had an mp3 sound file and a .vf file. I could find no application to play or open the .vf and see no way to get to a .veg file. I have never made a zip file before and I am asking for clarification on how to package the submissions. Also why do the instructions say that with 100% generated media that only the .veg file needs be submitted - do .veg file contain generated media rather than referencing to it?

Thanks,

Michael

.vf is "Video Factory", now known as Vegas Movie Studio. You should be able to open .vf files in Vegas, as long as your version is as new as or newer than the version it was saved from. Thus, version 6 .vf files will open in either Vegas 6 or Vegas Movie Studio 6, but not in Vegas 5. Version 4 .vf files will open in Vegas 4, 5, 6 or Vegas Movie Studio 4 or 6. Try using File / Open in Vegas and selecting that .vf file. It should open, providing your version is new enough.

There is nothing to reference with generated media, nor do .veg files contain generated media. It is created (generated) on the fly within Vegas as the frames are rendered. Therefore there is nothing outside the .veg file to be included.

Thanks Chienworks: All I need now is to know how to package the still and sound files into one box with the .veg

Select all the necessary files in an explorer window. Right-mouse-button click. On the popup menu select Send to > compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a .zip file with the same name as the first file you selected.

Thanks, but.......

In looking at some of the entries I find several have missing .mp3s or .jpg files. Is this because of something I have done wrong in extraction (I don't see how) or have some contestants uploaded incorrectly?

AND while I am here let me ask two other questions:

1) What does "SMPTE pop" mean?

2) The guidelines describe the entry as a countdown or a "VEGAS" leader. Does this mean we CAN use copyrighted images that are the property of SONY such as photos of Vegas boxes and/or various Vegas logos?

On the VASST side, we'll not be looking at whether you used a Vegas box or logo. Sony would have to comment on that, but frankly, I'd be very surprised if they had issue with it, they never have in the past. However, other non-Vegas related copyright issues are checked for.
We too, are seeing missing images in various projects, but that's for the author to deal with...not us. You'll have to vote according to what the final projects appear like.

A SMPTE pop is a 2 frame, 1Khz tone that counts down time. Sometimes these aren't 1KHz tones, but rather more creative sounds. I'm uploading a tone package even as I type, so you should see it on the website shortly.
