VASST Toronto Tour

Just got back from a day of Vegas training in Toronto. DSE was great in explaining and demonstrating the basics as well as the advanced stuff of compositing (sometimes called composting) colour correction and chroma keying. He answered all questions with an incredible depth of knowledge based on personal experience. And his sense of humour kept my aging brain about as alert as it can be.

Spot even accommodated us Canucks by referring to the "Zed One" camera.

Thanks to Douglas and Mannie for making the trek north.

I attended it and it was a great presentation by Spot.

I definitely learned something about chroma keying as (keep this a secret ok?) I've never done chroma key before.

I'm sure it would take me days, if not weeks, to learn some of the compositing and keying techniques demonstrated at the training session - I think we also learned lots during the question-and-answer periods too, and from Spot's personal-experience stories with some of his clients --not found in training books!

It was well worth taking a day off from the TIFF - and still have time to enjoy the last film and late-night closing party. I took my Sony Handycam to all the gala screenings and plan to make a vid of the highlights that I'll post on the web at some point. For now - it's back to work and the real world (Just thought of a name for my vid - "Reel World" ?- ha ha)
From people I talked to in class, the local User Group is much anticipated by all of us Torontonians :-)
