I was talking to JohnnyRoy and he said an upgrade from any version of Ultimate S to Ultimate S4 will result in some kind of discount. Prices will be listed on VASST's site soon.
How cool. The rotating feature is something I wanted for a long time. I love the facelift and the dockable window and a lot of other new features. Thanks a million and for making my job easier.

I resemble that remark! ;-)
We are working out the details, but all Ultimate S customers will get some kind of discount. Obviously those who upgrade frequently will be rewarded with the largest discount but we value all of our customers and appreciate their continued business.
There are several big new features in this release. Obviously the custom control is a huge workflow enhancement. We’ve added a Render tab that can batch render your project or any number of projects or files by any number of formats. All of the formats can be saved as presets so that you can call up a render list very quickly and not waste time reselecting them. We have a generic Media Swapper that’s like GearShift on steroids and can swap any kind of media, even TGA’s and PNG’s to JPG (for example)
We’ve also added the ability to save media bin presets so that you can start your project with the media bins set up just the way you want. You can also import folders from your file system as media bins and make presets out of them, or load a media bin preset and create not only the bins, but matching folders on your file system all ready to add media. You can even import file folders complete with media and US Pro 4 will make the bins and import the media for you.
As soon as I get back from NAB (I am writing this at the Las Vegas airport right now and am about get on a red-eye for NYC) I am going to work on a set of free instructional videos for Ultimate S Pro 4 because there is so much functionality in there now that it really deserves some visual training.
Thanks Johnny - neither Opera nor IE7 were letting me in, but I just tried IE7 again and got through this time - the new password must have just become effective.
Hm, I just tried to order it and got to the stage where I authorised the payment, but the screen just sat there looking at me - the Paypal Payflow link page.
I did press the 'Authorise' button (in fact I fear I pressed it twice!)
Still no joy, so I'm not sure what to do next - has my order been processed/ Has it been processed twice?

Login to your account at VASST and look at your order history. You should see the order with your license code to unlock the software. If not, the order did not go through. You can always send an email to support at VASST dot com to check the status of an order. I'm back in NY now but the rest of the VASST staff is still at NAB in Vegas so they are running on Pacific coast time which is an hour later than their normal Mountain time for Utah.
I could look up your order as well but you've hidden all of your details here on the Sony Forum so I have no way of knowing who you are. :(
This upgrade is amazing. Sony should make Ultimate S and Excalibur requirements for purchase. I'd say Sony should pay VASST and JetDV mass amounts of money to buy them out and integrate them to Vegas, but of course then they'd screw them up. And with the dockable window now, it is just as good as being a part of Vegas.
One question: Can I use the media swapper to perform the function of the "Copy Media with Project" and the "Create Trimmed Copies of Source Media" in the Save As window? As we all know, this function only currently works with http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=580946DV[/link]. When I'm done with original media files after creating a project, I just want to keep the portions of the events in the project, not the huge original files that I captured.

No, the Media Swapper is for exchanging files by type. So, for example, if you created proxies it will swap them in and since they are DV they will be trimmed when archived, but the trimming of non-DV media needs to be provided by Vegas itself.
Maybe now that Vegas has smart rendering of long GOP files, they can use the same technique to copy only the sections that were used (i.e., trim them).
Be aware that although the video portion of a long GOP file with compressed audio is smart-rendered, the audio is not. You really don't want too many generations for this fact alone.
Johhny, I'm looking forward very much to your visual tutorials - as you say, there's so much functionality in there, but a lot of it I look at without much clue as to how to work it!
Peter, if you hover your mouse over most options, a tool tip will appear explaining the meaning of the feature. I know it doesn't go into depth, but it does give a clear statement concerning most things in US4. Hopefully JohnnyRoy will get those tut's done soon and finish the tooltips in the program! :)
