vcd?

I've just bought video factory 1.0. I was trying to rendering one of my avi's to a mpeg and burn it as a VCD. When I tried playing it on my DVD player, which plays VCDs also, it does not work.

What I did, basically I went and selected "Render as" under the file menu and picked the VCD template. And after it rendered, I burnt the rendered file to a CD. Is that how its done?

Yes... that's how it is done, however; there are several reasons why it will not play on your DVD player. Your DVD player is most likely NOT compatible with the disc you burnt it on.

Did you use a CD-R? If so, try using a CD-RW. If that doesn't work, go to vcdhelp.com and look up your DVD player on the DVD compatibility list. That list will tell you lots about what brands and different kinds of media your DVD player will recognize.

I also tried using CD-RW. It doesnt work. Strange, because I can play Clash of the Titans on on VCD on my DVD player.

I could be wrong because I have VF 2.0. But I do not think that is how it is done.

You can render a VCD compatible mpeg file, but just writing the file to a CDR will not make it a VCD.

A VCD has to have certain directories and file structures to make the DVD player read it correctly.

In VF 2.0 you have to choose, Write your movie to VCD or Make VCD. Then VF renders the file correctly and writes it to a disk with all the support files and directores.

Just because you have a VCD compliant mpeg does not mean you have a VCD.

What are you burning with? One of the easiest ways is with Nero, whose VCD option will create the proper file structure. Another simple option is Ulead DVD Movie Factory.

Thanks. that might be the problem. i dont have the right software to burn vcds. i was burning my mpegs as data. i dont have the option on my adaptec software to burn vcds.

thanks

does video factory resizes the screen while rendering to a mpeg of different format like vcd or dvd? for example, i capture avi on 320x480 and render the whole project as a vcd or dvd, where the screen size can be bigger or smaller than the original avis that is used to render the project.

periodic...VF2 does make the files and folders for a VCD. I'm guessing VF1 just has the templates. If you upgrade to VF2 it is $29.99.

The reason I said you did it correctly was because I assumed you burned the MPEG file to CD correctly. I just read in your last post that you burned the MPEG to a CD as a "data" file? Oooooookaaaaaay..... there's your problem.

Thank you for that post! I went out and bought four different brands of DVD players before I discovered what you have posted. I'm left with the question of wondering what the purpose of "..render a VCD compatible mpeg file..." is, since it doesn't make a VCD? As far as my bad eyes can tell, that option still plays a higher quality movie on my computer than the same VCD plays on my DVD player...
