VCD is incompatible with my stand alone DVD player

I created a VCD using Video Factory 2.0c. Although my Sony DVD player can play video cd's (listed in the manual) it was unable to play the VCD I burned using Video Factory. Is there anything I should try or settings I should change during the burning proces to make it compatible? Should I use a different software like Easy CD Creator to burn the VCD?

It should work fine. I have a sony dvd player & I just used the optin in vf to burn vcd and bob was infact my uncle.

Perhaps your media is dodgy, or your dvd player or you are infact doing something wrong.

Do you have another vcd you can try in the sony dvd player? or another dvd player somewhere you can try your vcd in. Lets try to narrow the problem down a bit.

Are you using CD-R or CD-RW? If one isn't working, try another....Your DVD player may be sensitive to one type of media over another (it has something to do with the different coatings/film used between CD-Rs and CD-RWs, and the DVD laser's ability to read them properly).

I hear this over and over. It is my experience Sony is less compatible than some of the pioneers and even the Daewoo sams club special. I recall Sony was a year behind the others with MP3 compatibility, and now I hear Sony is more picky with Svcd and dvd r's by many. Could Sony be holding off because they supply the world with ORIGINAL recorded media???? When I bought my pioneer dv-444, it was the ONLY unit I could find that would randomize MP3's correctly using solders with 11 hrs of music (a must). From what I found, the others did not work. I also found that with the svcd's I made from VF. Most players at Circuit City failed there too. I brought the disk in, the gung ho teenage sales staff said it would work on the toshiba, sony, panasonic, etc., IT DID NOT, they all failed! This was a year ago, hopefully things are better now. I picked up a JVC for work and it seems pretty good, I have not given it the treatment yet though to judge it. the_ripper

Here are featuers I like covered by a unit:

1) MP3's with random / shuffle
2) ability to play .jpg image files in folders
3) SVCD, XVCD, VCD, DVD-R compatible
4) component and Digital outs
5) DTS, and all the other norm that most now have....
6) Progressive scan? I am not sold on this. unless you have a HDTV or digital signal, what good is it? sales kids push this too....

Make sure you have your settings right in VF when creating the VCD.
What model # player do you have. If your player is more then 2-3 years old then it will be difficult to play them even though it says it will. Mine sais it will play them too but I could never get it to work. So I bought a new Sony player. You could try different brands of media. The generic brand at Circuit city work great. Also try to burn the CD at the slowest speeds possible.
