May NOT be related, but, what is the MAKE and MODEL of your burner?

Grazie

MPEG1, VCD, 16x9 at 720x480, 1440x1080@29.970.... all of these things are kind of mutually exclusive. Just exactly what are you trying to do and what software are you using in your attempt?

Usually VCD is reserve for CDs and not DVD media, if I remember correctly.

Yeah you should be burning VCDs on CD-R media. That's your problem.

My opinion on VCDs is that as an NTSC format, it is lousy, as a PAL format it is pretty darned good. Most new DVD players don't play them though. A few years ago whoever owns the VCD format rights started charging royalties to any manufacturer who wanted to put VCD compatibility in their players. The format died almost immediately since VCDs were mostly supported by cheap Chinese players and those manufacturers weren't about to pay the extra licensing fee.

Laurence,

Thought VCD was an out of date format but was not sure why it was in ver 9.0, should have Googled further..

I captured content through VidCap that defaulted to 720x480 from a non-HD camera, DVX100b. Shot 16x9/24p I wanted to pixel double to full screen however, there does not seem to be an option to do so within Architect 5.0 onto a DVD. I thought screen res was not media dependent, i.e. that a regular DVD minus or plus R could record up to 1080i? The only option that Arch allows me to do that is for Blu-ray.

Thanks

The VCD format of today is AVCHD disc: HD content on a regular DVD+-R. Same problems of not universal compatibility. My Philips bluray player for instance will not play AVCHD discs. In the short run it is a good way to get HD content out without buying into a Bluray burner and discs just yet. In the long run it will go the way of the VCD as bluray disc prices drop.

um, That would be a problem since I have to give discs to different people and would have no way to test their players.. Will stick with creating disc within Arch 5 however, still not sure why there is no 1080i option for a regular DVD, screen size is not disc size dependent just should be a factor of how much content can be stored.

...still not sure why there is no 1080i option for a regular DVD...

Because that's not an accepted file size for a standard DVD.
From the manual, here's all that DVDA will accept.

MPEG-2 NTSC:
4:3 720x480
4:3 704x480
4:3 352x480
4:3 352x420
16:9 720x480
16:9 704x480
4:3 720x480
4:3 704x480
4:3 352x480
4:3 352x420
16:9 720x480
16:9 704x480

MPEG-2 PAL:
4:3 720x576
4:3 704x576
4:3 352x576
4:3 352x288
16:9 720x576
16:9 704x576

Thanks. What software would you use to render out 1080i if captured from an SD source for DVD?
