VCD Questions

I noted in the knowledgebase that you can create VCD
formatted disks with Adaptec Easy CD Creator (which I
have). However, the knowledgebase does not specify a
version of that software nor does it specify which MPEG
video format to use.

Are the audio and video formats the same?
Do you have any suggestions for creating a menuing system
that will interface with a DVD player? I do not have a DVD-
RAM but I do have two CD-RW burners.

If I can put my video to VCD then it should work with most
DVD players.

Thanks for the help.

Mike,

I don't know if you questions have been answered, but I
hope that this helps..

I believe that the type of MPEG you need to use for the VCD
is the MPEG-1. That is the compression format used by
VCD's, anyhow. Once you save your project as an MPEG-1
file, then you can use the Adaptec CD Creater to burn a VCD
of that project.

Here is the rub... most DVD players out there are VERY
picky when it comes to the media it will recognize. Mine,
for example, will not read regular CD-R's, it will only
read the more expensive CD-RW's. From what I understand,
this has to do with the dye they use on the back of them.
Most are GREEN or BLUE... and to make it even MORE
difficult, the ability to read the CD-R / RW differs
between DVD players.

For help on this, there is a database out there of what CD-
R medias work with what stand alone DVD players... the site
is http://www.vcdhelper.com/dvdplayers.htm

As for a menuing system, I have not been able to
successfully create one yet, although there is information
about that in the above web site.

I hope that this helps,

Brad Rosenberg
