VCDs to DVDs?

Client has several 5-6 year old VCDs and SVCDs - won't play on computer (although VLC player makes a stuttering effort) or DVD players such as Playstation 3. "Corrupt Data"

I can open the disk and access the video files as AVSEQ01.MPG, AVSEQ02.MPG, etcetera.

Copy 'em to my disk, and they open in V8c.

BTW, DVDA5 refuses the *.MPGs as acceptable media when I shot for a media insert directly.

I've tried simply rendering the MPG timeline to DVDA mpegs (LOL?), they'll render, import, and burn in a new menu-driven dvd - but V8c has crashed on several occasions ranging from 75%-98% complete during the render. The old "has encountered a problem and needs to close."

Any help much appreciated - since I've got some old VCDs of my own I should "upgrade."

very strange as there's nothing special about VCD/SVCD's, they're just mpeg's. do other mpeg's give the same results?

Thanks for the reply.

GSpot and CodecInstaller both report there's nothing strange, they're all valid. Sounds like it's me rather than us. I'm continuing to research.

Thanks again,

Darryl

maybe it's because of their resolution differences? Maybe render to AVI first?
