VCHD burn vs mpeg burn for BD disc

Burning an AVCHD project to a DVD - rendered to m2v / w64 (= the default set up in "Make Movie") - went into DVD Arch and set to burn on a DVD using the "matching" AVC format but it errored early -long error statement ending with "vidoe underflows" So went back and set to what Steve Grisetii suggests in his book = the mpeg2 format - burned like a champ. DVD plays great - so - do I care? is there some advantage to staying in the avchd format? - or could I have something cross wise in the burn set up? - this is a single movie disc. K

How do you specfy " DVD using the "matching" AVC format"
I can only specify DVD or blueray and no special format?

Sorry if I sound confused -nothing unusual - I am talking in DVD ARCH not VMS - When doing a new project burn you select the type of project = "Menu Based".............to "Single Movie" you then select Disc format (DVD or BD) and then select a "project video format" from the drop down... So many options as to confuse us novices - assuming you selected "Blueray Disc as the Disc Format you have a bunch of Mpeg and "AVC" (=AVCHD) project formats to choose from.
When burning a HD project to a DVD - you go at just liike you were going to do a BD except you should be sure to specify the DVD Disc capacity (target media size(GB) in the Project Properties( = 4.70 for single layer DVD) . Stick the DVD in the burn drive -the PC does not care that it is a DVD if has enough capacity to hold the project...
I tried an AVC format and errored out so went back and tried a MPEG fomat that burned OK .... The matching format was the one a carried through out the project . ....
